Matrix IDC was appointed to refurbish The Bear Inn, a historic 16th-century pub in Hodnet near Market Drayton, on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The project blended traditional character with modern comfort, bringing together careful construction, hospitality fit-out, shopfitting coordination and bespoke joinery to create a refreshed pub environment ready for long-term use. Working within a character property requires a sensitive approach. Existing details need to be respected, new finishes must feel appropriate and the final space has to work practically for staff, customers and everyday hospitality use. Our role was to bring structure, coordination and craftsmanship to the refurbishment while protecting the personality of the original building. The result is a warm, inviting and carefully restored pub interior that balances heritage, comfort, commercial practicality and contemporary hospitality standards in a well-known Shropshire village setting.
